is our First Blood Drive of the 2011-2012 school year.

Each year the National Honor Society hosts three blood drives throughout the year. These take place in October, February, and then again in May. We would like to have about 60 unit donors at each drive. This number assures one of our graduating Seniors a scholarship!!

LifeShare blood center's mobile unit will be set up in our auditorium from 8 am to 3 pm for anyone willing to give! Anyone age 16 and up is eligible to give. (If you are 16, you must have a parental consent form.) Please come out to support the community and our students!

West Hardin Qualifies for OPS State

The West Hardin Golden Pride Band once again qualified for the State Outstanding Performance Series this past July. The OPS series is sponsored by ATSSB (The Association of Texas Small School Bands) The recordings submitted by the Golden Pride are judged at the region and area level before they can qualify for state. Each recording must place in the top two spots in order to go to the next round. West Hardin has now had recordings qualify on the state level for the past two years in a row and has ranked in the top 1 percent of all 1A bands in the state of Texas. CONGRATULATIONS Golden Pride Band!!!!!

At the Clear Spring Texas Forensic Qualifier, Jordan Free won three preliminary rounds and advanced to the elimination brackets in third seed. He ultimately finished as a quarterfinalist in championship Lincoln-Douglas deabte.

NHS Fish Camp

Fish Camp was a great success! Thanks to all NHS members and teachers that participated on Thursday, August 11th, 2011. We had 31 incoming freshmen in attendance. They are prepared with their books covered and their lockers decorated which look great! Thanks again for all that helped and participated!!

State Qualifiers!!!!

Congratualtions to all of our boy and girl athletes who competed in the Regional Track Meet! They all did a GREAT JOB !! Our boys Mile Relay Team consisting of Justin Harrington, Tyler Caruthers, Corey Brown, and Justin Kelley placed 2nd and will be competing at the State Track Meet! Also Heather Pilgreen placed 2nd in the High Jump and will be competing at the State Track Meet as well!

Softball Opens Up Play-off Run

Lady Oilers will travel to Shepherd Friday, April 29th, to take on Lovelady Loins in the first round of the playoffs. Game time will be at 6:30

Oiler Track Surprises Many, Win Area Track Meet at Zavalla

The Oiler Track team came together and took 1st at the Area Track Meet last Thursday. Led by Justin Harrington qualifying for 5 events for regionals. Justin placed 2nd in the Triple Jump, Long Jump, 110m Hurdles, 300m Hurdles, and ran on the 1st place 4x400m relay team. Other members of the team that will be competing in San Antonio at regional track meet will be as follows:

Clayton Werner: Discus 4th

Calvin Ridge: High Jump 3rd

Corey Brown: High Jump 2nd, 4x200m relay 4th, 4x400m relay 1st

Hunter Doiron: Pole Vault 1st, Long Jump 4th

Tyler Caruthers: 4x200m relay 4th, 4x400m relay 1st

Mason Lawson: 4x200m relay 4th

Justin Kelley: 4x200m relay 4th, 4x400m relay 1st

Other team members were Jaybo Burn 6th place in Discus, John Glenn Harrington, Morgan Patterson, James Crockett, and Darren Creel

Varisty Girls Track Team Results

The Varsity Girls track team took 4th place at the district track meet out of 13 teams.

These girls placed in the track meet and will advance to the Area meet next Thursday, April 14th, in Zavalla:

Maribeth Zwahr - 4th place discus

Tori Waters - 2nd place 800 meter run and 4th place pole vault

Heather Pilgreen - 2nd place high jump, 3rd place long jump and 2nd place 100 meter hurdles.

The following girls placed in the track meet:

Jordan Hashaw - 6th place in 3200 meter run and 6th place in 1600 meter run

Tori Waters - 5th place in 1600 meter run

Sprint Relay Team took 5th place: Talor Hughes, Abby McCoy, Tori Waters, Heather Pilgreen

800 Meter Relay Team took 6th place - Talor Hughes, Abby McCoy, Sierra Bennett, Heather Pilgreen

Congratulations to these girls on a successful track season and good luck to the three who will compete to advance to regionals!

UIL District Speech Results

At the UIL District meet, West Hardin qualified four people to regionals. Jordan won 1st in LD and qualified for regionals. Dylan won 2nd in LD and qualified for regionals. Ashley won third in LD and qualified for regionals. Daniel won second in persuasive speaking and qualified for regionals. Additionally, Ashley won fourth in informative speaking and Dylan wonwon fifth in persuasive.
